About Montana Photographer Larry Stanley

I picked up my first camera at the age of 5. My father gave me the gift of a German 120mm roll film camera and a small black and white enlarger. With his tutoring and direction, in a few short weeks I was shooting and processing simple photos of schoolmates, teachers and family. (That's me with my camera in 1957)

Out of the basement darkroom came small glimpses of my emerging future; prints that showed an appreciation for the constantly arising visual world around me. My life long passion for capturing the beautiful and poignant moments of life had been born.

Interest continued to emerge in photography and art throughout my youth. Through a circuitous route of living, studies and travel in Missouri, Colorado, California, Hawaii, Australia, the Philippines, China and Tibet, I have made my home in Livingston, Montana; still constantly in search of "beauty... as it occurs naturally".

"Frontier House" Wedding

A recent notable publishing of my editorial work was featured in TV Guide. My photos accompany the article about the PBS special "Frontier House". I was hired by TV Guide to photograph the July 4th wedding of Nate Brooks and Kristen McLeod that transpired during this real life reenactment of homesteading in Montana during the late 19th Century. The series currently airs on PBS.

Step back in time and view my images of this 1883 marriage on a homestead in Montana.
